A hot, dry summer faded into a beautiful, temperate fall, as the SHS gardens put on their final show for Swarthmore. All the photos below were taken in early October 2012.

Over 2,500 perennial plugs were planted during the weekend of May 26 and 27, 2012. Here is a list of what will be blooming this summer at Gateway Park:
⬅ ⬅ ⬅ Muhlenbergia capillaris (pink hairgrass)
- bursts into bloom in late summer with clouds of pink flowers
- withstands heat, humidity, or drought
- needs full sun, average to dry soil
- height = 2-3'
- spread = 2-3'
Pycnanthemum flexuosum (Appalachian Mountain Mint) ➜ ➜ ➜
- aromatic summer bloomer with silvery white, fuzzy globular flowers
- resistant to deer
- attracts butterflies
- needs good drainage
- full sun to partial shade
- height = 2-3'
- spread = 3-4'
